Dr. Onoyom Onyile

Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Onyile is a board certified pediatric dentist treating infants, toddlers, children, adolescents and children with special health care needs. A New Jersey native from North Brunswick, he is the father of two young girls and has, in his own words, practised countless hours of oral hygiene on them. He always has the child’s best interest in mind when recommending treatment.

And a whole practice behind them

If your child needs orthodontics later, or you want your own check up done on the same trip, it happens in the same building. One family, one set of appointments, one team who already know you.

What a visit actually looks like

Parents usually want to know two things: will my child be upset, and are we doing enough at home. Here is what happens in the chair and what each part is for.

Every six months

The same schedule as an adult, for the same reason.

The very first visit

Short, unhurried, and mostly about getting comfortable.

What treatment looks like, step by step

01

First visit by the first birthday

Or within six months of the first tooth appearing. It is short, and mostly about making the room familiar.

02

Clean and exam

Plaque and tartar off, a proper look at every surface, and a check on how the jaw is developing.

03

Fluoride and sealants

Fluoride hardens the enamel. Sealants close off the grooves in the back teeth where most cavities start.

04

A plan you understand

If something needs treating, you get the options and the reasoning behind them rather than a quote.

05

Back every six months

Consistency is what keeps children out of the chair for the wrong reasons.

Questions parents ask before booking

By their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. It is early on purpose, and that first visit is mostly about familiarity.

Tell us before you arrive. A first visit can be shortened to nothing more than sitting in the chair and meeting the team. Nothing is forced.

Modern digital x-rays use a very small dose, and we only take them when there is a reason to. We will explain why before any are taken.

They are one of the most effective things we can do. They close the grooves in the back teeth, which is where the large majority of childhood cavities form.

Yes. Dr. Onyile’s training specifically covers treating children with special health care needs, and appointments are planned around what works for your child.

Yes. For younger children we usually prefer that you do.

Preventive visits are covered by most plans. We check your coverage before the appointment so you know what to expect.
